Now that you are done entertaining yourself and others sitting around you, let’s talk about a math resource that allows for differentiated math gaming in your classroom.

Prodigy is a FREE online resource that blends math and adventurous, role play gaming. In this unique learning experience, students will learn through a variety of assessments and responsive differentiation. In addition, the teacher will have access to a data rich environment where he/she can continue to differentiate the facilitation of learning in the classroom. Here’s the best part…it’s FREE! Yes, yes there is a paid version, but let’s be honest…we teach and although affordable, the paid version will not likely make our expense priority list.

Book Creator

There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man’s fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call SCHOOL….HA!

Let’s make the connection between the opening narration of the Twilight Zone and the use of Book Creator in your classroom.

Like the Twilight Zone, Book Creator is:

  • A Vast, Blank Space
  • Timeless through publishing capability
  • Entices and develops the imagination of learners

Aside from the Twilight Zone, Book Creator is a simple tool for engaging students in authentic creation based learning that is available across the Apple, Android, Windows platforms. In addition, it gives students the opportunity to learn and collaborate outside of the walls of their classroom in a vast space we call Earth. (I may or may not continue to reference the Twilight Zone…hang in there and feel free to chuckle…remember the scientific purpose for laughing?! If not, reference blog entry #1.)

The How (a few examples to get the dimension of imagination going):

  • Interactive Journaling- learn a new concept and log that learning in a way that can include pictures, videos, text, and more.
  • Digital Portfolios- gather up evidence of your learning and store it in a way that can be shared with parents and teachers
  • Published Works- poetry, short stories, alphabet books, comics, cookbooks, etc. can all be published in iBook, YouTube, and more.
  • Curriculum Design (Flipped Classroom)- create course/curricular information as a student or teacher

The Discovery of a Purposeful (re)Source

Let’s get real…the countdown is on!

So far this year you have,

  1. Built a community in your classroom
  2. Set expectations for leading and learning
  3. Established a connection with parents
  4. Missed regular bathroom visits
  5. Eaten but rarely tasted your lunch
  6. Impacted our future for roughly 600 hours
  7. Lesson planned for engaged learning, collaborative experiences, and independent growth
  8. Went to bed only to lay and think about every moment spent with a child thus forever altering the amount of sleep you need to function
  9. Served as a counselor, mediator, nurse, travel agent, confidante, photographer, party planner, decorator, detective, comedian, learner, researcher, and so much more.

Right about now you are thinking, “Ya, I know all of this. Why am I reading this blog to tell me what I already know?! I don’t have time to sit and read when I have the top 9 list above and so much more!” Read on anyway…

The intention of this blog is multifaceted.
